Southern Poultry Products Market

For many years, the Southeast and parts of the Southwest have been recognized as the major market for producing and processing poultry products for both the domestic and export market. During the past twelve years, low cholesterol diets have swept over North America and many export markets. Poultry became the preferred meat for lunch and dinner. Poultry production and processing in the Southeast and Southwest developed and grew substantially to meet the increase in demand for poultry products.

NEMO® Pump personnel and NEMO® distributors were quick to recognize the potential for NEMO® Pumps in the poultry processing industry, and have been successful in placing units in service at many of the key poultry processing plants including Tyson, Gold Kist, Seaboard, Purdue, Pennington, Cargil, Golden Poultry and others.

Another Prime Application

Several months ago a NEMO® distributor in the Southeastern Region discovered another prime application for NEMO® Pumps in one of the businesses that supports the poultry industry. Developing the growth and quality of poultry has evolved into a science. One contributing factor to the growth and quality of poultry is the grain and vitamins they are fed. There are very large grain processing mills located in the area of the poultry processing plants that are totally dedicated to the poultry market. The product provided by the poultry grain mills is sprayed with various types of vitamins, minerals and molasses. Molasses is the main ingredient and is the carrier for the vitamins and minerals. Gear pumps are normally used to pump the molasses to the spray nozzles.

Seasonal to a Twelve Month Operation

When the poultry industry progressed from a seasonal to a twelve month operation, the grain mills began to have problems during the colder months when the viscosity of the molasses increased due to a decrease in temperature. Shaft breakage and dramatic capacity drops were very common. Insulating the molasses tanks and heat tracing the discharge piping did offer some relief. However, it became necessary to heat the holding tanks twenty four hours a day during unpredictable cold spells. Heating the tanks became very expensive.

The molasses applications became very successful for NETZSCH NEMO® Pumps. Capacity required ranges from 30 to 60 gallons per minute, discharge pressure 60 to 100 PSI. Viscosity of the material 6,000 to 10,000 C.P.S. The material is non-abrasive and standard C.D.Q. construction can be used. Stator life is exceptional and payback on the NEMO® Pumps can be obtained in the first season of use. If there is a feed mill in any region that is producing an animal feed product, there is a potential for a NEMO® molasses application.
